A 23-year-old was killed, and five others were injured in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 70 near the Kfar Hassidim Junction in the area of Haifa on Thursday night, Magen David Adom said.
Upon arriving, MDA personnel treated a 20-year-old man with no signs of life and suffering from multi-system trauma. As a result, they were forced to pronounce his death on the scene.
Five others were injured and evacuated in serious and moderate condition to Rambam Health Care Campus and Bnai Zion Hospital in Haifa.
Two of those injured, both in their 20s, were described as being in serious condition and evacuated while unconscious and suffering from head injuries, MDA said. Another 20-year-old was described as being in serious condition, sedated and ventilated, with injuries to his lower limbs.
Two additional people, aged 17 and 25, were evacuated in moderate condition with head injuries.
Due to the crash, Highway 70 northbound at the Kfar Hasidim Junction was closed, and drivers were asked to take alternate routes.
'Two vehicles collided, thrown to the side of the road'
“When I arrived at the scene, I saw a number of smashed vehicles and five injured people, some of them lying unconscious," Senior MDA medic Amir Wahabi said. "I saw a man lying among the bushes, beyond the guardrail, next to a vehicle.
"The young man was unconscious, with no pulse and not breathing, suffering from very severe injuries to his body. We performed medical checks, but unfortunately, his injuries were significant, and we had no choice but to pronounce his death.”
MDA paramedic Yuval Lontel and MDA medic Aryeh Saloshet added that the injured have been "evacuated in MDA intensive care units and ambulances to the various hospitals.”
“Two private vehicles collided and as a result were thrown to the side of the road," Hatzalah medics Aryeh Saloshet and Avi Tuito said. "Hatzalah and MDA personnel provided initial medical treatment to two young men who were unconscious with head injuries, and to a young man about 20 with injuries to his lower limbs."
"The two were evacuated in serious condition for further treatment in the trauma units at Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa," they continued. “We also provided initial medical care to a 17-year-old boy and a 25-year-old man with head injuries, and evacuated them in moderate condition for further treatment at Bnai Zion Hospital in Haifa."
