The Zikim crossing has been opened to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid trucks into the Gaza Strip, the Defense Ministry’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) said on Wednesday.

According to COGAT, the crossing was opened following a government directive, and aid deliveries are being coordinated by the United Nations and other international organizations.

Additionally, trucks are undergoing security inspections by the Defense Ministry’s Land Crossings Authority before entering Gaza, the government agency noted.

According to COGAT, as of last month, more than 2.17 million tons of humanitarian aid have been transferred to Gaza since the beginning of the war, with the majority delivered over land. Smaller quantities have arrived by sea and through airdrops.

Aid deliveries were halted between March 2 and May 19, 2025, under government orders. Since June, maritime shipments have been rerouted through Ashdod Port.

Roughly 80% of the aid consists of food. The remainder includes shelter equipment, medical supplies, water, gas, and other mixed items.

Egypt, Jordan, Israel, international organizations, and the private sector are among the principal donors. Aid is entering primarily through the Kerem Shalom, Erez East and West, and Rafah crossings.
