Several men who were removing stickers commemorating victims of the October 7 massacre told a Jerusalem Post photographer to leave the scene near Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem’s Old City on Wednesday.

Men confronted by multiple people

Marc Israel Sellem said he had entered Jaffa Gate to photograph Jerusalem stone when he noticed several men peeling off stickers with the names and faces of fallen soldiers.

“I asked what they were doing,” he said. “They told me to leave and not take pictures. I kept photographing anyway.”
The men briefly stopped removing them, Sellem said, adding that a group of Jewish women also asked them what they were doing.

Since the October 7 massacre, the stickers have become a grassroots form of remembrance in Israel, often accompanied by a short description of the victim’s life and character.
