Egypt said Sunday it has completed final preparations to host the signing of a “Sharm el-Sheikh Agreement” to end the war in Gaza, with an international peace summit set for Monday, October 13, co-chaired by US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and attended by leaders from more than 20 countries.

The Egyptian presidency announced the summit’s aims are to end the fighting, bolster efforts toward peace and stability in the Middle East, and “open a new page” of regional security.

South Sinai Governor Maj. Gen. Khaled Mubarak said the Red Sea resort city had entered maximum readiness. “We have raised preparedness to the maximum across all sectors of the city,” he told Al Arabiya.net and Al Hadath.net, citing work on hosting, accommodation, and logistics.

Mubarak said security and traffic deployments by police and the armed forces had been stepped up, “with intensified fixed and mobile checkpoints on international and internal roads,” and full activation of the citywide camera network.

He added that medical staff leave had been canceled and that hospitals were placed on high alert. A round-the-clock operations room, extra ambulances, specialist medical teams, and boosted stocks of medicines and supplies are in place “in case of any emergency,” he said.

Despite the security posture, major streets remain open and tourism is operating normally with smooth traffic flow, Mubarak noted.

20 Global leaders in Sharm el-Sheikh

The summit comes as Cairo positions itself to finalize a deal to end the Gaza war. Reuters reported that Egypt will bring together over 20 global leaders in Sharm el-Sheikh to close out the agreement. The Egyptian presidency said the meeting will be jointly chaired by Trump and Sisi; Washington has invited a large number of states to attend, according to statements carried in Arabic-language coverage.

Trump told reporters Friday he would meet “many leaders” in Egypt on Monday to discuss Gaza’s future, following a stop in Israel earlier in the day. Those remarks were also referenced in Arabic-language reports about the summit.
