A 24-year-old Israeli was moderately wounded after a Civil Administration worker struck him with an iron rod to the head in an act of self-defense in the Gush Etzion settlement of Metzad, Magen David Adom and the IDF said Friday.
Security forces are working to arrest those involved in the altercation.
After Civil Administration workers demolished an illegal outpost in the area and left the site, the shuttle carrying the approximately 20 workers was attacked by dozens of Israelis, Army Radio said.
According to security sources, the shuttle was attacked in retaliation for the demolition of the outpost.
Fighting breaks out between two groups
As a result, fighting between the two groups ensued, and one of the contract workers hit one of the Israeli assailants on the head.
The head of the Civil Administration, Brig.-Gen. Hisham Ibrahim conducted an initial inquiry and stressed that he views the incident with severity.
He instructed that the inquiry be completed with all those involved and that all necessary steps be taken to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
