Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will need the next two weeks to focus on the Israel-Hamas War and manage attempts to free the remaining 50 hostages held there by Hamas, defense attorney Amit Hadad wrote to Jerusalem District Court judges Rivka Friedman-Feldman, Oded Shaham, and Moshe Bar-Am.

Hadad asked that Netanyahu’s criminal trial, which has been taking place twice a week in the Tel Aviv District Court, be suspended for two weeks.

The prosecution is expected to respond to the request on Friday.

Alongside Netanyahu’s testimonies in Cases 1000, 2000, and 3000, defense witnesses have been testifying once a week at the Jerusalem District Court.

Hadad wrote that the defense team would “do its best” to continue presenting those witnesses.

Trial is in cross-examination phase

Ynet noted that the court’s summer recess is scheduled for July 21 and will continue until September 5.

The trial is currently in the cross-examination phase, as the issue has extended beyond the pursuit of justice and ballooned into a major social issue in Israeli society.

Delays notwithstanding, the process remains long, with a projected year just for the cross-examination questioning, then even longer for a verdict.
