At least four people were injured in an industrial accident at BP Cherry Point Refinery in Blaine, Washington, on Saturday morning, BP said.

Three people were hospitalized, including one in need of "advanced life support" with two others requiring "basic life support," The Seattle Times reported, citing local fire district chief Ben Bokyo.

“We were not involved in any mitigation or operational response activities at the facility,” Boyko wrote.

It is unclear what caused the disparity between Bokyo's statement of three casualties, while BP said four were injured, The Seattle Times noted.

Witnesses heard an explosion at approximately 10:20 a.m., according to Cascadia Daily News.

Employees at the refinery were evacuated following the incident, the report noted.

Incident at refinery contained, BP spokesperson says

A BP spokesperson said that the incident was contained and there is no risk to nearby communities, according to the outlet.

Local emergency responders, including the fire service, responded to the incident at 10:25 a.m., transferring injured employees to a local hospital, the outlet said.

“All other staff are accounted for,” the BP spokesperson said, according to local outlet KOMO News.
