Elon Musk called to abolish the European Union on X/Twitter on Saturday, one day after the EU announced it had fined the platform €120 million.

Musk's comment was in response to a post by Hungary's prime minister about corruption in the EU.

"The EU should be abolished, and sovereignty returned to individual countries, so that governments can better represent their people," Musk added.

X was sued on Friday for violating the EU's digital rules, a penalty the Trump administration criticized.

The fine against X was the first that the EU Commission, under its Digital Services Act (DSA), imposed in a content-related case. DSA noted that X's violation rendered the platform liable for breaching the transparency obligation.

"The European Union is not DEMOcracy – rule of the people – but rather BUREAUcracy – rule of the unelected bureaucrat!" he wrote.

"I love Europe, but not the bureaucratic monster that is the EU," he added.

Among the violations addressed, DSA accused Musk's X of being deceptive with its "blue checkmark" verification system and of failing to provide public data access when requested by researchers. In addition, X was accused of not being transparent enough about advertising.
