Israeli citizen Chen Ben Ari, 22, was killed Friday morning in a motorcycling accident while traveling from Delhi to Agra during a one-year trip to India, local media reported.

The victim was riding alongside his friend, 27-year-old Israeli national Eicher Ed. The pair was heading to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal when the 22-year-old’s motorcycle lost control and skidded on the Agra-Marutha highway between 8 and 8:30 a.m.

Victim's helmet came off during crash

According to local inspector Sunil Kumar, Ben Ari was wearing a helmet, but it came off during the crash, leaving him unprotected to receive severe head injuries. He was taken by emergency services to the Farah Community Health Center, where he was declared dead.

Indian officials said that the two had arrived in India on October 23 with a one-year tourist visa for a cross-country trip, and had rented the motorcycles in Delhi with valid documentation.

A similar incident occured in January of this year, when 21-year-old Israeli national Rotem Yaish was killed in a motorcycle accident on the island of Koh Samui, in Thailand.

He had traveled to Thailand with his parents and two sisters for a family vacation after being discharged from IDF service, and had only begun the trip a few days prior to the incident.
