The Radical Civic Union Party candidate Hernán Damiani suffered a heart attack, only days before the Argentinian general election, and died during a live broadcast on Thursday.

Damiani passed away at age 66, just days before the October 26 elections, in which he was running in the province of Misiones.

In the opening minutes of the program, Damiani collapsed and fainted. An ambulance was immediately called, and the country’s former health minister, Dr. Walter Villalba, who was also in the studio, performed first aid and CPR.

Mourning Hernán Damiani

Despite the efforts, Damiani passed away while in Ramón Madariaga Hospital.

“With sorrow, we bid farewell to a great activist and leader from Misiones, Hernán Damiani. He passed away yesterday while defending his ideas in a debate. He was a provincial legislator and national deputy, with significant prominence in opposing the attacks of Menemism in the 90s. We stand with his family and friends,” the UCR party wrote on X.
