Finnish Social Democratic Party MP Eemeli Peltonen, 30, took his own life on Tuesday inside the Helsinki Parliament House.
Peltonen was first elected in 2023 with 5,747 votes. He was a member of the Parliament's Administrative Committee and Legal Committee. He also served as the city councilor of Jarvenpaa and the city board chairman.
Aaro Toivonen, the Parliament's Director of Security, told Finnish media site Kauppalehti that emergency medical services, rescue services, and police arrived at the scene immediately after being alerted to the fatality.
Peltonen faces kidney problems
Peltonen said that he had contracted a bacterial infection while he was receiving treatment for kidney problems, he revealed on social media in June.
He took a few weeks at home to recover.
On his website, Peltonen said he would be running for re-election in the spring.
This is a developing story.
