UN Special Rapporteur on Palestine, Francesca Albanese lost her verified "blue check" on her personal X/Twitter profile on Monday.

This came days after UN Watch submitted a legal appeal to the owner of X, Elon Musk.

The appeal called on the company to remove Albanese's check mark following her designation under US sanctions.

UN Watch praises it as a 'major achievement'

"This is a major achievement," UN Watch Executive Director Hillel Neuer said, adding that "Verification on X provided Albanese with many advantages, greater visibility, algorithmic amplification, and an appearance of credibility. Stripping that badge sends a clear message: anyone who targets US officials and companies and supports terrorists will suffer consequences, no matter their title.”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, when announcing sanctions on Albanese, cited the reasoning as her "illegitimate and shameful efforts" to prompt the International Criminal Court (ICC) action against US and Israeli officials and companies.

The sanctions on Albanese are due to go into force on August 8, and will freeze her US-based assets, barring her from entering the country, and prohibiting American citizens and companies from providing her with goods or services.
