An attempted arson took place in Golders Green, London, in the early hours of Tuesday morning, London's Metropolitan Police confirmed to The Jerusalem Post on Wednesday.
Residents of a block of flats on Bridge Lane, NW11, reported witnessing a suspect deliberately start a fire in a communal stairwell before fleeing when challenged.
The fire was quickly put out by members of the public. No injuries have been reported.
The majority of residents of the building are Jewish, and many are young families.
Shomrim attend scene, recover evidence
Community security group Shomrim said it attended the scene, recovered evidence believed to belong to the suspect, and is assisting the Metropolitan Police with CCTV inquiries.
The Met said no arrests have been made and officers are keeping an open mind as to the man's motive.
