A Sydney teenager was charged on Tuesday for the antisemitic knifepoint assault of a Jewish man on a train, the New South Wales Police said on Wednesday.
The 66-year-old Jewish man was walking toward the train door exit when he was allegedly approached by two people.
The pair made comments about the victim’s religion while brandishing a knife before assaulting the man and then fleeing from the scene.
NSW Police arrested one of the attackers, a 16-year-old boy, in the suburb of Padstow. He was charged with intent to commit an indictable offense, common assault, publicly threatening violence on grounds of religion, and intentional intimidation by threatening physical harm.
The teenager was denied bail and was arraigned at a children’s court on Wednesday.
